The twelve modules

What each module captures, the frameworks behind it, who completes it and how often.

  • M01 Phase and Growth Readiness (six-monthly, ~35 min, Company Administrator and one Manager). Places your company on the growth curve and measures the growing pains that signal a transition is due. Every other module is scored against the stage you declare here. Frameworks: Churchill & Lewis (1983) five stages; Flamholtz Growing Pains Survey (10-item); Greiner (1972/1998) growth crises.
  • M02 Governance (six-monthly, ~30 min, Company Administrator). Looks at how decisions are made and overseen: board, delegations, shareholder agreements, risk and audit oversight, and how dependent the company is on its founder. Frameworks: ASX Corporate Governance Principles 4th ed. (adapted); AICD governance principles for SMEs; Tricker's governance roles.
  • M03 Strategy (six-monthly, ~45 min, Company Administrator and Managers). Captures your strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats with evidence, and tests whether your strategy has a diagnosis, a guiding policy and coherent action. Frameworks: SWOT / TOWS (Weihrich 1982); Rumelt's strategy kernel; Ansoff matrix.
  • M04 Market and Competition (annual, ~40 min, Company Administrator or commercial Manager). Rates the forces acting on your market and scores you against up to six named competitors on dimensions you choose. Frameworks: Porter's Five Forces; Perceptual (positioning) map; Blue Ocean strategy canvas.
  • M05 Commercial Engine (six-monthly, ~40 min, Commercial Manager). Maps the nine blocks of your business model and the numbers behind them: funnel conversion, acquisition cost, lifetime value and margin per unit. Frameworks: Business Model Canvas (Osterwalder); Pipeline and funnel metrics; Unit economics.
  • M06 Financial Health (six-monthly, ~50 min, Company Administrator). Reads two years of financial statements into a standard chart of accounts, which you confirm line by line, then computes runway, margins and resilience ratios. Frameworks: Liquidity and leverage ratios; Cash runway and conversion cycle; Altman Z''-score (private firms); Rule of 40 variant.
  • M07 Risk (six-monthly, ~35 min, Company Administrator and Managers). Builds a register of up to twenty risks with owners, ratings and treatments. Cyber, IP and foreign-interference entries are mandatory. Frameworks: ISO 31000:2018; 5×5 likelihood–consequence matrix; COSO ERM categories.
  • M08 Operations and Scalability (six-monthly, ~35 min, Operations Manager). Rates manufacturing readiness, identifies your binding constraint and compares capacity with demand, suppliers and quality systems. Frameworks: Manufacturing Readiness Levels (MRL 1–10); Hayes–Wheelwright four stages; Theory of Constraints; OEE.
  • M09 Systems and Digital (annual, ~30 min, Operations or Finance Manager). Measures the coverage and maturity of your core business systems, how well they integrate, and your cyber maturity against the Essential Eight. Frameworks: CMMI-style five-level maturity; Ross & Weill IT governance; Essential Eight (ACSC).
  • M10 Team Composition (annual, ~45 min, Each invited person; Administrator for company-level items, individual). Each person completes their own profile under their own consent: qualifications, team roles and personality. The company sees coverage and gaps, never other people’s raw answers without consent. Frameworks: Belbin Team Roles; Big Five (IPIP-NEO-60); Katzenbach & Smith team basics.
  • M11 Culture and Leadership (annual, ~25 min, All invited staff individually, individual). Each respondent describes the culture now and the culture they prefer. Results are aggregated; nobody sees an individual answer. Frameworks: Competing Values Framework / OCAI; Denison model; Kotter's 8 accelerators.
  • M12 Commercialisation and Capital Readiness (six-monthly, ~40 min, Company Administrator). Places your product on the commercial, technology and investment readiness ladders and records your IP position and capital plan. Frameworks: ARENA Commercial Readiness Index (1–6); Technology Readiness Level (1–9); Investment Readiness Level (1–9); IP position audit.
