Fit score, bands, drag and thrust
Maturity (0 to 100). The weighted mean of a capability's items, normalised. Likert 1 to 5 maps to 0 to 100; numeric items are banded (runway under 3 months = 10, 3 to 6 = 35, 6 to 12 = 65, over 12 = 90); structured grids use documented completeness rubrics.
Expected band. Each capability has a lower and upper bound per Churchill & Lewis stage (for example GOV.BOARD at Success: 35 to 65; at Take-off: 55 to 85). Bands are configuration and are versioned.
Fit score (-100 to +100). Below the band: (m - L) / L × 100. Inside: 0. Above: (m - U) / (100 - U) × 100. Negative means under-developed for your stage; positive means over-developed; both are findings. Widgets treat ±10 as fit.
Drag. |fit| × a stage-specific weight (1 to 3) for capabilities outside the band: how much the gap holds back the next transition. Anchors are the top five by drag.
Thrust. Movement of fit toward zero since the previous assessment on the same instrument version, × weight. Engines are the top five in-band capabilities by thrust; a first assessment has none.
Readiness. The share of weighted capabilities in band: Ready to transition at 70% or more, Preparing from 45%, Building below. If more than half of weighted capabilities sit above your declared stage's upper bound, the engine proposes the next stage and your Commercialisation Manager confirms or rejects.
Scoring is deterministic: the same responses under the same instrument and analysis versions always give the same scores and hash, and every run is an audited event.
